RationaleQuercus hondae Makino, which distribution is restricted in southern parts of Kyushu and Shikoku, is designated as an endangered species (IB). In Miyazaki prefecture, southeastern Kyushu, this species usually appears in secondary (semi-natural) forests dominated by Castanopsis cuspidata Schottky. In this study, we aim to suggest a conservation strategy for
Q. hondaeon the basis of forest ecology, tree ecophysiology, and forest genetics.
