[Research in the past]
I have used phytolith analysis to study the establishment and propagation of rice cultivation techniques. This research has been conducted in China, South Korea, and Taiwan. Research in China began with investigation of the Cao Xie Shan site in the 1990s, which will soon be 20 years ago.
[My role in this research]
I have studied the change in rice cultivation techniques in the period from the first contact with wild rice to the fully-fledged cultivation of rice in the downstream basin of the Yangtze river. Specifically, I use phytolith analysis to investigate the location, scale, and yield of the rice cultivation in each period of the Neolithic age.
In addition, I have created a report of this study and have cooperated as a representative with other study groups.
[Major methodology: Phytolith analysis]
Phytolith is a soil particle that mainly originates from the silica body formed inside plants of the Gramineae. The morphological character and density of phytolith enables us to estimate the existence of particular crops and their production.
